For me, stones, are pieces of giant rocks, that have separated from it by the effects of erosion.
The types of stones that I know are basically the most popular because our daily use, those are: granite and marble.
A common way of identifying stones is by their common characteristics like their hardness, their irregular shape and the ussual colors that they have like grey or brown, although there are every kind of colors.
As I already said one of the most important characterists in stones is their hardness, because of this people often used them as construction materials. They can support a lot of weight and resist water, wind and also fire, providing security to a place.

Stones, also called rocks, are defined as a naturally ocurring solid agregate of minerals, which are classified according to their composition, texture and the proceses that formed them into igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic respectively.
There exist many advantanges like durabiltity, adaptability to sculptural treatment and its use naturally. In relation to the disadvantages, we can find: Difficult to quarry, transport and cut, weakness in tension, expensive and unstable with loads pushing at angles. Another use worth mention is that of stonework: it will be used as rubble (roughly broken stones bounded in mortar) or as ashlar-masonry (regularly cut blocks). Furthermore, this material barely bonds with each other which can be a problem during the construction.
In conclusion, according to the structure we are creating, we can or can't use stones in its construction.
